KLARCK

Produces and engineers house music as KLARCK after a decade in studio and live sound, work that runs on the same premise as CalCompute: a signal chain is only as good as the part of it anyone can reach

Kevin Liu is a producer, engineer and DJ in Los Angeles who releases as KLARCK. A UC Riverside graduate in business economics with a master’s in music technology from New York University, Liu has spent the past several years on both sides of the desk, cutting records in studios and running sound in rooms full of people. It is a craft with a premise CalCompute shares: the tools that let someone make something are worth only as much as their reach, and a chain works only as well as the part of it anyone can actually get to.

The KLARCK catalog is house music built on classical piano training that started in childhood, threading traditional Asian string melodies through house, UK garage and afro house. Singles have come steadily since 2024: Boma and Ride or Die that year, then Zero, Edge of Time, Show You, New Friends and Pretend through 2025, and Love for It and Somehow in 2026. Show You was released on Purple Tea Records in May 2025, and Edge of Time landed on Ostowana Records’ afro house compilation for 2024. Liu is also one half of Kiluna, an afro house duo whose tracks have passed 500,000 SoundCloud streams by the duo’s own count. The work has drawn support from producers including Omary, Justin Blanc and Kevin Killen, and Liu’s production credits include Janet Noh, Omary, Raines and Abiirahmi.

The engineering came first. Liu was a music production assistant at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU Tisch from 2022 to 2023, worked as an assistant engineer at Corner Store Studios in New York over the first half of 2022 and mixed live sound at Wicked Willy’s in Manhattan the following summer. The through-line is the unglamorous half of the discipline, the part where the signal either arrives clean or it does not.

Back in California, Liu worked as an audio visual event technician with Five-Star through 2024 and 2025, and has been a fan experience tech host with the LA Clippers since October 2025, which means production infrastructure at the scale of a full arena. Earlier, as an undergraduate, Liu spent two years as a student office assistant at UC Riverside’s Center for Environmental Research and Technology in the College of Engineering, and before that interned at Fubon Financial Holding in Taipei.

Kevin Liu holds a Master of Music in music technology from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in business economics from UC Riverside, speaks Chinese and English, and is based in Torrance.
